Symptoms of Eczema
Common signs and symptoms of eczema include:
- Dry, sensitive skin
- Intense itching, especially at night
- Red, inflamed skin
- Rough, leathery, or scaly patches of skin
- Oozing or crusting
- Areas of swelling
If you're experiencing these symptoms, especially if they're persistent or severe, it's important to consult with a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Causes and Triggers
- Genetics: Family history of eczema or allergies
- Environmental Factors: Irritants, allergens, climate
- Immune System: Overactive immune response
- Stress: Can trigger or worsen symptoms
- Skin Barrier: Defects in the skin barrier function
The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but it's believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. At Fairview Dermatology, we work with you to identify your specific triggers and develop strategies to avoid them.
Understanding your triggers is crucial for managing eczema and preventing future flare-ups. We'll help you develop a personalized plan to keep your skin healthy and comfortable.
Treatment Options
At Fairview Dermatology, we offer various treatment options for eczema, tailored to your specific needs:
- Moisturizers and skin care recommendations
- Lifestyle modifications to avoid triggers
- Topical corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and itching
- Topical calcineurin inhibitors for long-term management
- Biologic medications for moderate to severe eczema
- Oral antihistamines to relieve itching
Dr. Hudson will thoroughly examine your skin, discuss your symptoms and medical history, and may perform tests to rule out other conditions. We'll then develop a comprehensive treatment plan to manage your eczema effectively.
Remember, while eczema is a chronic condition, with proper treatment and care, most people can find significant relief from symptoms and prevent frequent flare-ups. Our goal is to help you achieve clearer, more comfortable skin and improve your quality of life.
What our patients have to say
If you haven't come here to see Dr Hudson for your skin needs YOU NEED TOO NOW!!! The most humble, professional, caring, sincere Dr for my 2 year old boy. I brought my son in for an eczema flare up, AND DR HUDSON was very certain he was in the right hands, and knew exactly what to do to ensure he knew how to treat my son. WITH ONE DAY WORTH OF CREAM that he prescribed, my sons eczema has SUBSIDED TREMENDOUSLY! Please go see Dr. Hudson if you haven't yet!

We love Dr Andrew and staff, we love everything about this clinic, the best of the bests and I'm speaking from years of experience with dermatologist since my daughter had an eczema since she was about 6 months old, it was a struggle taking care of her and another toddler with not much help since both me and my husband were busy with our jobs. We had to drive to Dallas to see her doc. Not much doctors yet in Allen yet at that time, no YouTube, Google…nowadays it's much easier. If you need to see a dermatologist, go to Dr Hudson, you will never go wrong, i didn't.
- Marites H.
Dr. Hudson has been outstanding with our son's eczema issues. Patient, listens, talks to him directly in a respectful and calming manner, and very helpful in addressing his issues.
- Angela R.
Dr. Hudson is great with my seven year old. She has suffered from eczema her whole life and I'm excited with the treatment plan we have her on now to make some real progress. Wish I had come sooner!
- Stephanie M.
The amount of kindness, care and compassion that Dr. Hudson showed my daughter floored me. It was quite a drive for us, but we'll worth it. I would recommend Dr. Hudson without any hesitation.

Dr. Hudson is the absolute best! He truly takes his time, listens, and genuinely cares for his patients. He was amazing with my daughter and made her feel beautiful. He tackled her acne issues head on and the results are incredible! She has such clear and beautiful skin all thanks to Dr. Hudson. We won't go anywhere else. He is a blessing.

This place is fantastic. Please don't go anywhere else. Save your time. This is it. The place was immaculate. The receptionist was super sweet. The tech was also super sweet. The doctor was super informative and communicative. They were all so sweet to my daughter that was with me. They had her involved in my appointment which was the most precious thing. They care about the whole person.
- Marli N.
Dr. Hudson and all of his staff, from the office ladies to his assistant, were phenomenal. This is hands down one of the kindest, informative, and most helpful medical offices I have ever been to. I originally brought my son here after getting a referral from his pediatrician for a specific skin issue he was having & was so impressed that I will be switching myself over to Dr. Hudson for all dermatology-related needs.
- Caroline D.
We had an absolutely amazing experience. I was blown away by his bedside manner and his genuine care and concern for my son. I highly recommend his practice and will be sending all of my friends to him.
- Rae L.
We got an appointment within a couple of days, registration process was super easy, nurses, administration were very nice .. then, there was Dr. Hudson, who was a total rockstar. He immediately put the kids at ease. He treated my son's wart with freeze and it was great. Then he checked out a mole on my daughter's scalp. Not only did he give us reassurance and a fair monitoring plan, he even gave her such encouragement because she said she wants to be a doctor. It was also nice that he is part of the community and has kids in the local schools! It felt like family..
