Understanding Warts

Warts are benign skin growths caused by various strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the body and vary in appearance depending on their location and the type of HPV causing them.

While warts are generally harmless, they can be contagious and may cause discomfort or embarrassment. Our team offers various treatments to remove warts and prevent their spread.

Types of Warts

  • Common Warts: Often on hands and fingers
  • Plantar Warts: On soles of feet
  • Flat Warts: Small, smooth growths on face or legs
  • Genital Warts: In the genital and anal areas

Dr. Hudson can diagnose warts through a visual examination. In some cases, a biopsy may be performed to confirm the diagnosis or rule out other conditions.

Treatment Options

At Fairview Dermatology, we offer several treatment options for warts:

  • Topical medications
  • Cryotherapy (freezing)
  • Surgical excision for larger warts
  • Supplements: Specific vitamins have been proven to reduce duration of common warts
  • Cantharidin, a medication that causes blistering to lift off the bumps.
  • Injections of Candida antigen, which stimulate the immune system to recognize and fight the virus causing molluscum.

Dr. Hudson will recommend the most appropriate treatment based on the type and location of your warts, as well as your overall health and preferences.

Prevention and Self-Care

To help prevent warts and avoid spreading them:

  • Avoid direct contact with warts, including your own
  • Keep hands and feet clean and dry
  • Don't pick or scratch at warts
  • Wear shoes in public areas like locker rooms and pools
  • Boost your immune system through a healthy lifestyle

While these measures can help, it's not always possible to prevent warts entirely. If you develop warts, early treatment can help prevent their spread.

Remember, warts can be stubborn and may require multiple treatments or a combination of approaches for complete removal.

What our patients say

This was our first visit. We went in it a second opinion for my daughters mole and a wart on my finger. Dr Hudson was kind and caring. And the staff was friendly. We will definitely be returning to this practice for any future needs! I highly recommend!!

- Brigitte B.

My little girl had to get a wart frozen off and Dr Hudson was so kind and patient with her. He explained everything, made it as fun as possible, & encouraged her that she could do hard things! Highly recommend!

- Tim Danielle E.

We got an appointment within a couple of days, registration process was super easy, nurses, administration were very nice .. then, there was Dr. Hudson, who was a total rockstar. He immediately put the kids at ease. He treated my son's wart with freeze and it was great. Then he checked out a mole on my daughter's scalp. Not only did he give us reassurance and a fair monitoring plan, he even gave her such encouragement because she said she wants to be a doctor. It was also nice that he is part of the community and has kids in the local schools! It felt like family..

- Eleanor B.

The amount of kindness, care and compassion that Dr. Hudson showed my daughter floored me. It was quite a drive for us, but we'll worth it. I would recommend Dr. Hudson without any hesitation.

- Christy H.

Dr. Hudson is the absolute best! He truly takes his time, listens, and genuinely cares for his patients. He was amazing with my daughter and made her feel beautiful. He tackled her acne issues head on and the results are incredible! She has such clear and beautiful skin all thanks to Dr. Hudson. We won't go anywhere else. He is a blessing.

- Jaime A.

This place is fantastic. Please don't go anywhere else. Save your time. This is it. The place was immaculate. The receptionist was super sweet. The tech was also super sweet. The doctor was super informative and communicative. They were all so sweet to my daughter that was with me. They had her involved in my appointment which was the most precious thing. They care about the whole person.

- Marli N.

Dr. Hudson and all of his staff, from the office ladies to his assistant, were phenomenal. This is hands down one of the kindest, informative, and most helpful medical offices I have ever been to. I originally brought my son here after getting a referral from his pediatrician for a specific skin issue he was having & was so impressed that I will be switching myself over to Dr. Hudson for all dermatology-related needs.

- Caroline D.

We had an absolutely amazing experience. I was blown away by his bedside manner and his genuine care and concern for my son. I highly recommend his practice and will be sending all of my friends to him.

- Rae P. L.

We love Dr Andrew and staff, we love everything about this clinic, the best of the bests and I'm speaking from years of experience with dermatologist since my daughter had an eczema since she was about 6 months old, it was a struggle taking care of her and another toddler with not much help since both me and my husband were busy with our jobs. We had to drive to Dallas to see her doc. Not much doctors yet in Allen yet at that time, no YouTube, Google…nowadays it's much easier. If you need to see a dermatologist, go to Dr Hudson, you will never go wrong, i didn't.

- Marites H.

Dr. Hudson is amazing! He is excellent with kids and made my daughter's visits so much easier for her! My entire family sees Dr. Hudson and will continue. We highly recommend him!
